Coert Von Wielligh
Service Manager — CLAAS Harvest Centre Bay of Plenty
How and when did you start your career in agriculture?
I started my agriculture career as a Technician with CLAAS Harvest Centre in Bay of Plenty in 2017 after a 10-year career in Earthmoving based in South Africa.
What drew you to your current role?
I have always been very driven and wanted to move into a managerial position.
What roles and experiences have led you to where you are today?
I completed an apprenticeship with Bell Equipment South Africa, worked as a Field Service Technician, and then was promoted to Service Manager. Following that, I moved to Kemach JCB as a Service Manager, and was then promoted to National Technical Specialist for JCB, among other brands. From there, I moved to New Zealand for a position with CLAAS Harvest Centre in the Bay of Plenty. This then leads me to my current position as Service Manager.
What do you love about our industry?
There is a sense of community in the farming network that I really enjoy. Also, nothing beats working out in a lush green paddock with nothing but nature around you.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of working in the industry?
It’s a great career if you are passionate about the agriculture industry, and if you enjoy the culture and community associated with it. If you are willing to work hard, the rewards are bountiful.
What training and development have you undertaken with us?
I have undertaken a large and varied amount of training with Landpower, including the entire ranges of CLAAS and JCB products in Christchurch. Generally, I continue to do at least two training courses a year.
What are the key reasons you have stayed with the Landpower and CLAAS Harvest Centre team?
It is a pleasant work environment with a supportive team where every person counts. There is growth opportunity, which is something that is very important to me. The CLAAS “family” also gives you a great sense of security which is very important.
